Cannabina Linnet (finch) Endangered by Cold War

Carduelis cannabina (pair)

The colorful
'Carduelis cannabina'
commonly known as the
'Cannabina Linnet'
songbird
is still in danger of starvation.

Due to past western 'Cold War' and Soviet block government policies, the native 'Cannabis ruderalis'
population(s) of Europe and North America have become decimated.

All to the detriment of the many wild animals that feed upon the copious trillions of wild hemp seeds produced annually by the two main seed species of the hemp plant, 'Cannabis sativa L.' and 'Cannabis indica L.'

Past human policies toward this avian specie of songbird (Cannabina
Linnet) and their natural food source (cannabis achenes) have been, in a
nutshell, nothing short of catastrophic for the targeted avian raice.

Such desired prominence in petroleum based fibers has indeed created unintended consequences.

While in pursuit of capital, revenue, lower costs and profits competing fiber companies and industries across many
political borders have experienced an increase in petroleum costs that cannot be reversed.

Therefore, once thriving areas of local hemp production (ie. Bohemia, Czechoslovakia EU and
(hopefully) Kentucky and Wisconsin in the USA) are experiencing a political and industrial type of 'Renaissance' along with a resurgence in the corresponding past proven accessions of seed-bearing hemp and cannabis plants.

BirdWatch In Britain, citing population(s) of 'Cannabina Linnet' that are still in descent after all these years, has attributed the loss of life to an increasing use of herbicides, aggressive scrub removal and excessive hedge trimming.

Nevertheless, the population of this orange breasted and crested specie of finch fell by 56% between 1968 and 1991 in Great Britain partly due to habitat loss and
the decimation of natural Cannabis ruderalis seed bearing plants.

The decrease in seed supply for the brown-spot chested females of the 'Cannabina Linnet' lineage as well as the increasing use of human developed herbicides effects the outer shell of the eggs laid by the females and
thus has created a double one-two punch of horror for our fine-feathered friends.

Concurrently, several seed-bearing raices of the fibre hemp plant, a 'cousin' of the two cannabis species upon which these bird
families have fed upon in past millennia have also been caught up in the global
persecution of the cannabis plant in favor of petroleum based fiber spins to the point of massive avian extinction in some
areas of government interdiction.

Today is a good day to help turn an ugly situation around for the benefit of our
avian friends.

Give generously to the Libertarian effort to abolish the current prohibition against the planting of cannabis and hemp varietals in your county, state, province or country for the continued benefit of listening to our songbirds 'chirp'.

Prelates Urge Bush To Veto Secure Fence Act

Catholic Insight Magazine, Jan 2007

Washington, D.C. -- The U.S. bishops' conference asked President George Bush to veto a bill that would authorize construction of up to 700 miles of fencing and barriers along the Mexican border, but without result.

"To be clear," conference president Bishop Skylstad, 72, wrote, "the U.S. Catholic bishops are supportive of efforts to enforce immigration law and secure our borders, so long as the mechanism and strategies applied toward this end protect human dignity and protect human life."

"However," the Bishop of Spokane added, "we are opposed to the legislation because we believe it could lead to the deaths of migrants attempting to enter the United States and increased smuggling-related violence along our border."

"We also believe it would send the wrong signal to our peaceful neighbor to the south, Mexico, as well as the international community."

Since 1995, close to 3,000 immigrants have died in remote portions of the U.S. Southwest (Zenit, Oct. 12, 2006).

The U.S. has also begun to patrol the until-now undefended border with Canada.

The London (England) Observer recently published a report by Paul Harris, "How U.S. merchants fear sparked a $130 billion bonanza."

"Five years after the World Trade Center fell, a highly lucrative industry has been born in America--homeland security. There has been a gold rush as companies scoop up government contracts and peddle products that they say are designed to make America safe. The figures are stunning. Seven years ago there were nine companies with federal homeland security contracts. By 2003 it was 3,512. Now there are 33,980. The money is huge. Since 2000, $130 billion of contracts have been dished out. By 2015, annual federal spending on the industry could be $170 billion per year. With so much money on offer and such riches being made, there is a powerful economic incentive to exploit the threat to America. The homeland security industry has an army of lobbyists working for its interests in Washington. It grows bigger each year and they want to keep the money flowing. America is in the grip of a business based on fear (Wanderer, Sept. 21, 2006)."

Comment: President Bush not only signed the document, but is now considering a Fence along the 4,000 mile long Canadian border as well. A more idiotic idea has not been conceived this century.

America's Atheists: Believe it or Not

According to figures compiled by the American Religious Identification Survey (ARIS), almost 30m people claimed “no religion” in 2001, a doubling up from 1991.

This dwarfs America’s 2.8m who describe themselves as "Jewish" according to the same survey (although other estimates suggest that the Jewish population is much larger, at about 6m).

Catholicism, the country’s largest Christian denomination, boasts 51m followers.

Therefore, today in America, going into the 2008 Federal Election Year, irreligion claims a surprisingly large number of adherents.

But, don't be surprised to see your favorite candidate attempt to mobilize this block of voters.

Pre-1937 Eczema Treatment Vindicated

New research suggests that herbalists who used cannabis ointments to treat the inflammatory skin disease of Eczema before 1937 knew what they were doing.

A team of scientists from the University of Bonn in Germany "stumbled" on the anti-inflammatory effect of (THC) while conducting a brain study on mice.

After genetically stripping the mice of their CB1 receptor capabilities, during a series of experiments the scientists observed unexpectedly that the skin around the mice ear clips became red and sore.

The scientists now believe both endo and phyto-cannabinoids act like brakes when binding to both CB1 and CB2 receptors. This prevents the immune system from running out of control and triggering inflammation.

So, smear that cannabis salve on your Eczema, people...and live life free of the side effects of "Big Pharma".

For you "double dippers" out there, sorry.

The amount of (THC) in the ointment needed to treat skin allergies such as Eczema would be far too small to produce any "other intoxicating side effects".

Ma Zi (Ch.) - Seed Oil v Lung Cancer

Researchers in New Zealand have isolated a 250 member group of "one-a-day" cannabis smokers plus 60 diagnosed lung cancer patients from the eight health districts in and around the region of Canterbury to extrapolate a mathematical risk of developing lung cancer on par with a one-pack-a-day tobacco habit.

The risk for both groups equally amounts to an 8% per year increase to age 55 for developing lung cancer based on cumulative exposure.

Bayer AG Shells Out $60 mill (US) For the Rights to Market Sativex Tincture Spray to EU

(Plus, another $14 million (US) for the "rights to market" Sativex tincture spray in Canada.)

That would be the same German Bayer AG aspirin company there, ya' all that calmed our fevers when we were kids.

By legalizing the oral spray, government officials hope the licit prescription trade will stop the explosion in botanical "grow-ups" dotting the Canadian countryside from "sea to shining sea".

But, not without a cost...to the consumer.

The cost of Sativex in England is currently £176 plus (VAT) or "value added tax" per four-pack.

The current exchange ratio of US dollars to British pounds is approx. 2:1

That puts a four-pack of Sativex containing (4) vials at around $350 (US)

This will provide 3 weeks treatment at full dosage, and 6 weeks treatment at one-half dosage for people with multiple sclerosis (MS)

A full year supply will cost anywhere from $3,000 to $5,950 plus tax.

(Or, $250 to $500 per month on average)

Conclusion: The detection risk is dropping as the cost of cooler running and longer lasting light emitting diode (LED) arrays continues to fall. Self-medication will always be a competitor to "Big Pharma".

Endocannabinoids in the Human Brain

CB1 receptor

This is a very complex workflow, but it is interesting the Creator designed man through evolutionary cycles to have such CB receptors.

Ditto the plant.

Could they really actually have been made for each other ?

It must be, because all the fuss caused by the Trichomes of an obscure herb could not have originated in the mind of an omniscient Creator.

Quite the contrary, the prohibition of phytocannabinoids and phytocannabinoid research over the past century promulgated by successive itenerations of the United States government and the DEA is a man-made fiasco cobbled together by the mind of confusion.

"Charas" As a Therapeutic Drug in the 19th Century

In India, ethanol extracts (tinctures) were administered to patients with rheumatism, tetanus, rabies, infantile convulsions, cholera and delirium tremens according to well established local medical traditions.

O'Shaughnessy wrote the following observations of the patients after three days of administration.

"Alleviation of pain in most, remarkable increase in appetite in all, unequivocal aphrodisia, and great mental cheerfulness."

Gradually "Charas" became an accepted drug in therapy during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

What in the infinite wisdom of a bunch of jack boot federal communists happened to this acceptable form of therapy ?

One word...productivity.

Induction of Phenotypic Markers

Do you know the genetic complexity and structure of your cultivar ?

Complexity and structure was investigated in 2001 by Forapani, Carboni, Paoletti, Molterni, Ranallu and Mandolino while on assignment with the Italian Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry .

By determining logical and biochemical traits within the subject genus, the scientists were able to determine the number of bands produced by the primers used, the number of fixed and polymorphic loci, the average allele frequency, and the heterozygosity of the specimens provided by HortaPharm BV of the Netherlands.

Phyto-Cannabinoid (THC) Directly Induces Apoptosis In Cancer Cells by Disrupting Cancer Cell Mitochondria Sans Endocannabinoid Receptors (CB1) or (CB2)

Time-lapse microscopy of human lung cancer (H460) cells showed that the endogenous cannabinoid anandamide (AEA), the phyto-cannabinoid Δ-9-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and a synthetic cannabinoid (HU 210) all caused morphological changes characteristic of apoptosis.

Janus green assays of (H460) cell viability showed that (AEA) and (THC) caused significant increases in (OD 595 nm) at lower concentrations (10–50 μM) and significant decreases at 100 μM, whilst (HU 210) caused significant decreases at all concentrations.

In rat heart mitochondria, all three ligands caused significant decreases in oxygen consumption and mitochondrial membrane potential.

(THC) and (HU 210) caused significant increases in mitochondrial hydrogen peroxide production, whereas (AEA) was without significant effect.

All three ligands induced biphasic changes in either mitochondrial complex I activity and/or mitochondrial complex II–III activity.

These data demonstrate that (AEA), (THC), and (HU 210) are all able to cause changes in integrated mitochondrial function, directly, in the absence of endocannabinoid receptors.

The Tyranny of the Majority

Research, Research, Research...

Nixon had a ton of it compiled, yet discounted the final results.

Reason: Too many plastic fibre manufacturers on his donation payola trying to maintain their political grip on the profitable trade in petrochemical outputs.

Thus, unable to follow the bright path of reasoning, his naturally induced paranoia left him a hugely unpopular domestic recalcitrant. Regardless of his limited success in opening up an international dialogue with Chairman Mao and his Marseilles, France educated Vice-Chairman Zhou Enlai, Richard Nixon left an unpleasant legacy upon the peoples of North America, the Western Hemisphere, Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, Australia and the British Isles, Singapore and all places north, south, east, west and in between. Did I mention, the moon and extra-stellar space, as well ?

Then again, bashing the fun loving people of America has always been the domain of the abusive alchohol and nicotine hooked generation of the 20th century even though our original Declaration of Independence written in the mid 1700's on hemp parchment holds certain truths to be self-evident.

And, no truths are less self-evident than "Life, Liberty and The Pursuit of Happiness."

Discounting the fledgling science of endocannabinoid receptors has also given rise to an additional pathway for fee income in an otherwise starving legal trade, plus a way to etch political brownie (parody) points with conservative voters.

Not unlike the lucrative accounting revenues generated from dealing with the ever expanding and complex US Tax Code, busting middle class kids and their parents proved to be a boost in the work load and pocketbooks of attorneys throughout the United States during the prohibition of cannabinoids.

Since the 70's, the growth of the incarcerated population has become "big business" in rural American towns starving for additional sources of tax revenues per inhabiting person as the prison population of the United States continues to march ever higher, recently tipping 2 million visitors and counting.

Is this just one more case of the old adage, "The more things change, the more they stay the same?"

Or, are we this time, really going to do something about our social injustices ?

For a look at the complexity of the endocannabinoid system in the human body check out the Endocannabinoid System Network (ECSN).

Was Saddam Hussein hung improperly in 2006 ?

Are you still wondering whether or not the Saddam Hussein trial and subsequent sentence execution was a "in-humane" execution or not?

If you are, then I suggest you check out the book Great World Trials "The 100 Greatest Trials in History" for a report on how tortfeasors and treasonous prisoners were executed at the beginning of the 17th century in Merry Old England.

For the answer, check out an execution from the Guy Fawkes Gunpowder Trial of 1606 !

Lesson 15: Do Not Procrastinate

Colin Powell Leadership Primer
It is interesting to view the attempt by the GOP to paint Colin Powell as distant to the President during Colin's tenure as our Secretary of State.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Witness Lesson_15 of the "Powell Doctrine" and you will be enlightened to see why George W. Bush made the decision to invade Iraq when we did.

It is clear after examining the close source of the "Powell Doctrine" that George W. felt in his "gut" that we were north of the 40% probability required for action when reviewing the primary publicized invasion issue of "weapons of mass destruction".

Not to mention the proven and probable sweet crude estimates laying beneath the surface of the Mesopotamian desert.

5,000 soldiers later plus another 30,000 service men and women wounded or maimed, and you have to ask yourself this question...

What happens when George W's tenure as President runs out officially on January 20th, 2009 ?

Answer: Barack Obama finishes the job by taking us deeper into Afghanistan to hammer the Taliban against an anvil of Pakistani resistance.

The bombings in Mumbai are proof the strategy is starting to work.

Check out our comments on the issue in the intelligence article highlights at Economist dot com.

The Ephedra Plant

Originally used in the USA by the western mormon population as an herbal tea to combat the effects of asthma, a species of the ephedra plant is known to currently grow (indigenous) in the state of Arizona.

The picture to the left is a species of the ephedra plant showing pink blossoms. All ephedra plants have various levels of several stimulant type ephedrine compounds within the cell structure of the stems of the plant.

See: Now banned (again) in the United States
